Our Artist Chris

Black History Month

The month of February is Black History Month and at Morgan Autism Center we learned about musicians, inventors, authors, scientists, activists, and athletes who have made significant contributions to our country. One of our classrooms learned about Garret Morgan, the person who invented the first traffic light and even made a tasty traffic light treat of graham crackers and M & M’s in honor of his invention.

Speech groups also focused on Black History Month and made choice boards to teach the students about Mae Jemison, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman. After learning about these incredible women, the students answered questions about them. Our Adult Program celebrated with biography sessions in which they learned about Jackie Robinson and Althea Gibson who were amazing American athletes.

Dragon Bagels for Lunar New Year

Room 5 made Dragon Bagels for Lunar New Year! Our students customized their own bagels with their favorite vegetables, fruits, and deli meats. Lunar New Year is also known as Chinese New Year and this year, the holiday was celebrated on February 12. In terms of the Chinese zodiac animal, it is the Year of the Ox. Our students and clients enjoyed many lessons on this important holiday and the customs of the people who celebrate it.
